Although this video does not follow the competition story, it does create the feeling that you are there, watching the events. Most of the video is devoted to launchings and landings of these beautiful ships. One sequence shows the long winged ships executing cross-wind landings. It's interesting to watch them crabbing in, wings level, right up to the touch down. A Nimbus 4 is caught landing wheels up. At one point the photographer, Paul Naton, takes the rear seat of an ASH-25 for a cross country flight up the side of Mt. Shasta. The wing-tip, and other, shots are very nice. The DVD is organized into two main parts, the Open Class contest and the other contests. It also has some special features, including a tour of the 2002 SSA Convention and beautiful time-lapse sky footage. For me, the time-lapse cloud action is the most interesting and beautiful part of the video; I could watch that forever. The other special features are promotions for R/C soaring videos that Paul Naton has also produced. I would fault this video only in not giving play-by-play coverage of the competitions and for the audio quality of many of the undubbed speech segments. Otherwise, this is a highly polished production and is clearly superior to most of the other soaring videos available. It's a welcomed addition to my video library.
