Objectives
- To promote cross country soaring skills
- To encourage FAI badge flights
- To encourage friendly competition among soaring pilots.
- To provide an entry level format to participate in cross country soaring competitions.
Goal
The goal, is to accumulate cross country miles during each soaring season.
The pilot with the greatest number of cross country miles is
declared, the winner, and recipient of the Betty J. Luebke Soaring Award.
Procedures
- The system of scoring cross country sailplane flights, is based on FAI standards. While it is not necessary to take turnpoint photos or record barograms or GPS data in order to log cross country flights, it is encouraged and is an important part of cross country training.
- Flights of 10 sm are the minimum requirement.
- A flight resulting in an FAI badge increases the cross country miles by 2.0.
- The sailplane is handicapped using the Carl Harold system.
- Cross country flights made anywhere in the USA may be logged. However, SSA sanctioned contest miles are excluded. This is to encourage more competition by less experienced pilots. Be sure to report your SSA sanctioned contest miles as a separate item. They will be recognized.
- The cross country period runs from 1 March through 31 October.
- Awards are presented at the annual year end gathering.
